Up and ready to go in darkness, we drove through skiffs of snow and brightly lit "Christmas trees" to Ft. Stockton. At that point we were swept onto the Interstate and brushed across the Texas plains. If Austin is your destination, you duck off and head across through towns with sturdy German histories, names, and foods. Just the right place for a lunch stop. When you begin to see hills and trees again, you know you are closing in on the Hill Country. Austin ahead, my kind of town!
