Goodbye, Ft. Myers Beach

On Saturday morning Jim called Periwinkle Park on Sanibel on the very outside chance that they might have an opening on Monday night so we could stay on the island and not rent a car to just spend the day. Just before we called, a camper had pulled out and left a site vacant for the remainder of the month. We made a snap decision to take it and move to Sanibel for our last five days on the Gulf. The person running the campground told us not to bother buying a lottery ticket because we had used up all our luck in getting that spot. Knowing that we would be leaving, we set out to enjoy our last day in the madness of Ft. Myers Beach.

First off, a last lunch at the charming Heidi's. We ate there at least once each day of our stay, and it always left us satisfied. Next on the agenda was a trolley ride down the road to the prettiest little theater ever, the Beach Theater, where each of the six (?) theaters seated maybe thirty people. We had already had lunch so just a carafe of wine, please. The movie, Identity Thief, was another of those movies that is best seen just in the trailers. Ah well, a little wine makes everything a little funnier. After the movie we had quite a long wait for our trolley. Traffic was backed up because everyone was slowly making their way off the island. Trolleys do not have the right of way and have to slowly inch their way up the highway also. Walking would have been faster, but we took the easy way until we were close to the Red Coconut. Oh, must say goodbye to our favorite beach bar before getting some sunset photos and heading home. We had a nice chat with Lydia and Steve who were sitting next to us and gave us some tips on where to stop on the east coast.

Warning: This post contains lots of sunset photos. I just can't help myself.
