Our friends, Jim and Lena Martin, had invited us to stop by and experience the French culture of Southern Louisiana, and we had been looking forward to that since we first planned this trip. We hadn't expected to be here right at the height of Mardi Gras fever, but our timing turned out to be impeccable because we saw a slice of Cajun life during one of its biggest party times. Actually just about any time is party time around this part of the country. Jim and Lena had prepared us, and the place exceeded all our expectations!
We pulled the coach onto the lawn beside Lena's compact and charming cypress cottage. When they had bought this piece of property on the banks of the Bayou Teche, they had constructed this as a guest cottage and had plans to build a bigger home on this gorgeous lot later. However, they liked the cottage so well that they have stayed in it and now have plans to build a tree house as a guest cottage. Meanwhile, their lot makes a very nice campground for the likes of us!
